Join us for our Anniversary Open House to celebrate the impact of our work with adults with blindness in the Chicago area!

Friedman Place Anniversary Open House: Weaving a Path Towards Independence

WHEN: Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 2pm-6pm

WHERE: Friedman Place, 5527 North Maplewood Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625

Our Open House will also include an unveiling of a mural on the Maplewood side of our building, which was created in collaboration with The Greenstar Movement! Light food and drink will be served, and we’ll also host live music, a weaving sale, tours of our weaving room, and displays of art created by residents. Our official ribbon cutting will be at 4pm.

2025 is a year of celebration here at Friedman Place! We’re celebrating two key milestones:

  • 90 years of serving adults with blindness in Chicago, as our founding organization, Association for Jewish Blind, was founded in 1935
  • 20 years of being in our Maplewood building. Thanks to the generous donation by Herbert Friedman, in memory of his parents Sidney and Dora Friedman, residents and staff moved into Friedman Place in January of 2005

We hope to see you there!
