As part of a new fundraising and development plan that was created in late 2015, Friedman Place’s Board of Directors introduced some new special events to raise money for Friedman Place. In June 2016, people came together for the first of our fun, new events in support of the Residents of Friedman Place.
June’s Taste and Toast on the Terrace cocktail party fundraiser faced threats of rain, but due to quick thinking by staff, the party was moved indoors. Over 80 guests - friends, family, volunteers, and partners, joined us in the Friedman Place Dining Room for this fun evening that featured a menu of tasty appetizers by Chef Cleetus Friedman, known for his work at Chicago restaurants like Fountainhead and Caffe Baci. The crowd was treated to a performance by resident-musicians Blind Concept, and some dancing followed. Friedman Place Residents volunteered as greeters and helped sell raffle tickets along with our Board and Event volunteers. We learned that with the support of the community, we can throw a fun and profitable party right here at Friedman Place. The event raised just over $3500 for resident programs.
In late October, more than 100 Friedman Place friends, board members, staff, and residents came together for our Fall Fiesta. The event was held next door to Friedman Place at Latin Bliss Nightclub, whose generous owners worked with us to create an exciting event. The Fall Fiesta featured drinks and a festive Pan-Latin menu created by our own talented kitchen, which included empanadas, ceviche and other treats. Additional food items were donated by our friends at El Carrito restaurant and Eli’s Cheesecake. In addition to food and drinks, guests had an opportunity to learn about residents and their lives through a video presentation and were able to further support our efforts by raising over $11,000 - another success!
These exciting events are only a taste of what’s to come. We look forward to hosting more events in 2017, such as Celebrating the Arts at Friedman Place on May 18.
