Letter From the Director
These last three years have been amazing. We moved into our new facility in 2005 with 29 residents, a handful of staff, and a lot of ideas. Our dream of building a vibrant community of blind and visually impaired adults has become a reality. In fiscal year 2007, we served more than 90 individuals. Our building is beautiful, warm and inviting. The sense of community is palpable. Friedman Place fairly hums with activity. People who see us for the first time are truly moved that such a place exists.
What we did not anticipate is how this organizational progress would influence the personal grown of all of us - residents, staff, board and volunteers. Our residents have increased their mobility and independence and found a political voice in the community. Our staff, to a person, have stretched themselves not only in learning new tasks, but excelling in them as well. Our Board of Directors has reorganized and strengthened itself in order to carry out the increased responsibilities of governance and development of this new, larger facility.
